Use the idea of different surfaces to give substance to a new piece of creative writing in this week's exercise

For the first five minutes, create a mind map or spider diagram with ‘texture’ as the central word. Think of contrasts – velvet and barbed wire, wood and rose petals, steel and sand. Think of textures you like and those you don’t as well as those that spark memories.

For the remaining time, plan a short story or poetry sequence using as many different textures as you can.
