Use the first line of a piece of writing to prompt new ideas in this week's creative writing exercise
Choose a first line. This could be from a newspaper article, poem, letter or song. Set the timer for five minutes and free-write. Don’t censor or cross out anything.
Look at what you’ve written and underline any words or phrases that appeal to you. Create a new first line and see where this idea takes you.
