What do you do to put off writing? Turn it to good use in this week's creative writing exercise
Most of us have time-wasting habits that take up mental space where we could be doing something more creative or useful – such as writing. Note down your most persistent offender. Is is Facebook, scrolling through Instagram, flicking through a magazine you aren't really interested in, looking at recipes you've no intention of actually cooking, or playing a game on autopilot? Whatever time-wasting activity you pick, spend a few minutes making notes about why you chose that activity and why that particular one appeals to you.
Now spend ten minutes creating a first-person narrator who takes your chosen time-wasting activity into the realms of an obsession.
