It's Carnival weekend! That's all the excuse you need to party with your pen in this week's creative writing exercise

For five minutes, free-write around the idea of carnival. Jot down whatever associations and impressions spring to mind - costumes, music, soundsystems, dancing in the street, street food, community coming together...

Now imagine you're in a carnival procession – either because you're supposed to be, or because you've somehow got caught up in it.

For the next ten minutes, write about what you're doing, why you're there and how it makes you feel.
