The non-stop reading of the works of Dylan Thomas will feature a cast of hundreds, including Ian McKellen, Jonathan Pryce and Katherine Jenkins
The event will start at 11 am on Sunday 26 October at in the city of Dylan Thomas's birth at Swansea Grand Theatre, and end at 11pm on Monday 27 October – the hour of Dylan Thomas's birth. It is the climax of the Dylan Thomas 100 festival.
The Dylathon is being staged by Michael Bogdanov, who has created 12 three-hour chapters from Dylan Thomas's poems, short stories, plays, letters, film scripts and Under Milk Wood, and also some rare, previously unpublished material. It will be performed by a cast including comedian Jo Brand, actor Sian Phillips, former Welsh Rugby captain Ryan Jones and Prince Charles (a recording of Fern Hill).
