Mateship With Birds author Carrie Tiffany, who won the inaugural $50,000 prize for Australian women writers, has said she will share her win with the other writers on the shortlist
Carrie will share $10,00 dollars with Courtney Collins (The Burial), Michelle de Kretser (Questions of Travel), Lisa Jacobson (The Sunlit Zone), Cate Kennedy (Like a House on Fire) and Margo Lanagan (Sea Hearts).
Carrie announced that she would be sharing her prize in her acceptance speech at the awards ceremony in Melbourne.
'This in some way reflects that the Stella is an opportunity to do something differently,' she said. 'I’ve experienced tremendous generosity and support from women in Australian publishing and literature; it’s a way of honouring the many rather than the few.'
