The winner of the new prize will get £1,000 and their work will be published in POEM magazine

The new competition, which is named after a major figure of 20th-century poetry and accepts international entries, is a collaboration between the Roehampton Poetry Centre and Wimbledon BookFest. The judges are poet Fiona Sampson and literary agent Peter Straus. In addition to the £1,000 first prize, there are two runners-up prizes of £100. All three winning entries will appear in POEM.

The competition is for original, unpublished poems up to 40 lines.

There is an entry fee of £5 per poem.

The closing date is 23 August.
