The translation rights in Rowling's first adult novel, The Casual Vacancy, are being delayed in territories considered high risk for piracy
These include Finland, Slovenia and Italy.
A spokeperson from Rowling's literary agency the Blair Partnership said that the book was being withheld from some houses until its publication date of 27 September 'to minimise the risk of the manuscript being leaked.'
Publishing industry commentators have remarked that the move will not only result in rushed, substandard translations, but will affect sales in those countries.
