New Writing North and Northumbria University, who are running Crime Story, have commissioned Anne Cleeve to create a crime scene scenario for the festival.
Guided by author and former crime writing critic Peter Gutteridge, Crime Story participants will be given an in-depth insight into how the criminal investigation and trial would proceed.
Experts taking part include a forensic scientist, a criminologist, a judge and Erwin James, a former prisoner who now writes for the Guardian. There will also be appearances by leading crime writers Anne Cleeve and Louise Welsh, and screenwriter Gaby Chiappe.
Crime Story will take place at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne on 31 May and 1 June.
An early bird ticket costs £99.
