The international competition for emerging children's novelists has a first prize of £3,000

The Bath Children's Novel Award is for unpublished manuscripts of fiction aimed at children who are able to read for themselves (chapter books and middle-grade books) and young adults.

To be eligible to enter, writers should not have accepted an offer of publication that includes an advance from a publisher. Writers may submit novels that are unpublished, self published or independently published.

The winner will receive £3,000. Shortlisted writers will get feedback from the prize's Junior Judges as well as agent introductions. The most promising longlisted writer will receive a free place on Cornerstones' online Edit Your Novel the Professional Way course, worth £1,800.

To enter, submit the first 5,000 words of a manuscript, plus a 300-word synopsis. Suggested manuscript lengths are 10,000 words for chapter books, 40,000-60,000 for middle grade and 50,000-70,000 for YA (longer for fantasy books).

The entry fee is £28. There are sponsored places available for writers on low incomes.
