Creative writing award: The Octopus Scheme

Applications are invited from writers from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds

The Octopus Scheme is intended to foster talent from writers from backgrounds not traditionally represented in publishing. The scheme is jointly sponsored by The Novelry and bestselling authors Rachel Joyce, AJ Pearce, Tess Gerritsen, Sophie Kinsella, Clare Mackintosh, Ajay Chowdhury, Lesley Kara and Kendare Blake.

Writers selected for the Octopus Scheme will receive a free place on The Novelry's Ninety Day Novel Course, which includes mentoring.

To apply, send a 500-word writing sample and answers to the questions 'About my circumstances and why I would like to apply for the Octopus Scheme' and 'What I hope to gain from the Ninety Day Novel Course.'

The closing date to apply is 31 May.
