The category winners, including poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, will now compete for the overall Costa Book of the Year award, which will be announced on 24 January
Carol Ann Duffy won the poetry category for The Bees (Picador). The novel award was won by Andrew Miller for Pure (Sceptre), and the first novel award went to Christie Watson for Tiny Sunbirds Far Away (Quercus). Matthew Hollis won the biography award with Now All Roads Lead to France: The Last Years of Edward Thomas (Faber). The children's book award was won by Moira Young for Blood Red Road (Marion Lloyd Books).
The prize money for each category winner is £5,000. The winner of the overall Costa Book of the Year Award will be presented with a cheque for £30,000.
