The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is inviting submissions from children's writers and illustrators for its sixth anthology

The SCBWI's Undiscovered Voices project, which helps new writers find agents and publishers, has launched the careers of writers and illustrators who between them have produced more than 200 books and been nominated for and won literary prizes.

'The SCBWI British Isles is so excited that this fantastic project is about to open submission for its sixth anthology! In today’s competitive publishing marketplace, Undiscovered Voices plays an unprecedented role in supporting unpublished writers and illustrators and bringing them into the limelight,' said Natascha Biebow and Kathy Evans, co-regional advisors for the SCBWI British Isles.

The Undiscovered Voices anthology will contain 12 fiction extracts and 12 black and white illustrations. It will be published in February 2018 and sent free of charge to agents, editors and art directors whose focus is children's literature.

Submissions open on 1 July and close on 15 August. To submit, writers and illustrators must be unpublished, unagented members of the SCBWI. Writers should submit up to 4,000 words of a completed novel manuscript aimed at readers of any age between 5 and YA. There are three possible briefs for illustrators.

Submission is free.
