Run by the Munster Literature Centre, the prize also includes a week's residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and publication in Southwold Literary Journal
The prize is named in honour of a poet who had a long association with the Munster Literature Centre during his lifetime.
There is a second prize of €500, a third prize of €250 and ten runners-up will be published in Southwold and be paid the journal's standard fee of €30.
The competition is for original, unpublished poems up to 40 lines. There is a fee of €5 per poem, or €20 per batch of five.
The closing date is 15 December.
