Coffee-break writing: Helping

08 September 2023
Set up circumstances and a dynamic in today’s creative writing exercise

What are the circumstances in which one person might need help, and someone else provide it?

Who are the two people? Are they strangers, or do they have an existing relationship? If the former, does their relationship develop, and in what way? If it’s the latter, does the dynamic of helping/being helped affect the relationshop, either positively or negatively?

Once you’ve created your set of circumstances and the dynamic between the people involved, first write a passage that conveys one person being helped and how they feel about it, and then another passage from the point of view of the person who is helping.
