Sandra Smith

At the heart of Sandra Smith’s magazine interviews is a desire to explore what makes her subjects tick. A similar style – collaborative, nurturing – is key in her approach to tutoring and mentoring.

As a freelance writer, Sandra is commissioned by a range of national and regional magazines. Her features have been published in Country Life, Country Living, The Lady, Landscape and The Chap as well as a number of Archant titles, with Hertfordshire Life and Hampshire Life amongst her regulars. She has interviewed Olympic athletes, MPs, actors, entrepreneurs, authors, interior designers and businessman et al, along with hundreds of artists, many expressing their amazement at how well she has read them. She counts empathy and discretion amongst her skills. A love of The Arts makes her a natural and regular reviewer, covering exhibitions at Tate Modern, Ashmolean, Tate Liverpool, Manchester Art Gallery and National Portrait Gallery. These are complemented by the occasional theatre review.

Sandra is also a ghostwriter and past Chair of Chiltern Writers whilst her workshops and live interviews have taken place at several literary festivals including Thame Arts & Literature Festival for whom she judged 2020’s Flash Fiction competition.

A Creative Writing Tutor (City & Guilds trained), Sandra has run her own writing group for the past 10 years plus she mentors writers on a one-to-one basis. She offers both proofreading and critiquing services, has organised short story competitions, been interviewed on BBC Radio Oxford and BBC Three Counties Radio and is Editor of a forthcoming children’s book, The Giant of Jiggery Pokery and His Amazing Seven League Boots.
