Lesley Eames

Lesley’s writing achievements include selling more than 70 short stories and succeeding in competitions across a wide range of genres, including crime, romance and children’s fiction. She has won the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s Elizabeth Goudge Cup and the Festival of Romance’s New Talent Award.

Lesley is going to be in big trouble when she finally downsizes from her current house because her bookshelves are heaving with a collection of books which reflect her even more wide-ranging reading interests. Authors include literary writers such as Hilary Mantel and Ian McEwan, women’s writers such as Mary Wesley and Joanna Trollope, and crime writers such as Ian Rankin and laugh-a-minute Janet Evanovich. There are also modern romances from Katie Fforde to Marion Keyes, sci-fi, fantasy, classics, children’s stories, and young adult works (shamefully, Lesley once wrestled on the floor with her younger daughter over who got first read of the latest book in the Twilight Saga).

Creative writing tutoring has been part of Lesley’s life for more than ten years. Not only does she bring her own writing experiences to the role, she also brings skills developed in her other careers. These include the precision and critical eye she honed as a solicitor together with the persuasiveness and emotional messaging she learned from several years in charity marketing.

As a tutor, Lesley loves to help others writers, whether their goals are to achieve publication or simply to increase their enjoyment in their writing.

What Our Students Say

Just wanted to say thanks so much to Lesley for her very encouraging feedback on my first assignment. It was fantastic to receive her comments, and they have given me a much-needed confidence boost (not to mention motivation)!

Julie Smith, Cheshire - 03/03/2016

Extremely precise and helpful feedback from Lesley, as always – and a super-quick turnaround time! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly each time. When trying to fit writing in around work and extended family commitments, it really helps.

Andrew Preskey, Isle of Wight - 13/04/2016

Thank you so much! I just wanted to say a very big thank you to you and the team for all of your support over the course as well as Lesley for all of her advice and kind words.

The short story course has been invaluable, I've learnt so much and will continue to use the course pack and assignment comments as resources. I will definitely be looking at the course extension, and the other courses available, again in the future.

Mary Lou Fletcher, Stoke-on-Trent - 12/01/2017

I am very impressed with the feedback from Lesley. It is very constructive and informative and I’m sure it will benefit me in my writing. I am looking forward to submitting my next assignment soon.

I just want to say I am enjoying this course enormously. I feel like a teenager who has finally been allowed to drive the car instead of being a passenger and can dictate where she is going. It is such a sense of freedom.

Kerena Swan, Milton Keynes - 31/01/2017

Wow! That was superfast. I hadn't expected a reply from the tutor until next week sometime at the very earliest. Reading Lesley's letter of welcome, her enthusiasm seems to radiate and must be contagious because I find myself wanting to just leave work early, go back to my hotel room and start to write. I won't of course because I have a mortgage and I doubt my company would be as excited about my writing as I seem to be today. I best stay in the office until 5.00pm. I have a number of story ideas I have been making notes about lately so I will mull them over in the hotel tonight and choose one to get started on.
