Course Description

Poetry writing course

Find your inner poet

Our online poetry writing course will help you discover your inner poet from finding inspiration through to putting that into words and crafting poetry.

Learn how to write poetry

You learn to handle rhyme, rhythm, metre and all the other tools of the poet's craft. You learn to write sonnets, ballads, rondeaus and all the other forms, even blank verse. And you learn by working one-to-one with your personal tutor who will be a published poet and recognised lecturer. Your tutor will also help iron out those wrinkles that can be the difference between winning and losing poetry competitions and even seeing your work in print.

Making a success of poetry writing

To have your work accepted means more than just writing good poetry. It also means understanding how these markets work, what they are looking for and how to meet their needs. These are all things that your course will cover and on which your tutor will advise you. Remember, your tutor will have experience of being a competition judge so they will have plenty of hints to pass on.

Course Feedback

Roger's comments and suggestions have been very helpful. I am thoroughly enjoying the course. It is making me think a lot and sort things out with my writing. Not too stressful - just right. The structure of the whole course is excellent.

From: Gillian Littlefair

Have been so impressed I'm dreading my last assignment, because I know it will mean the end of the course.

From: C Ellis

Mary encouraged me, each step of the way, with excellent advice and ideas, in a sensitive and kind manner. She helped me to see things in my poems I had not noticed or considered. She is truly an inspiring tutor.
