Entries are invited in the Best Children's Bedtime Story category of the new awards
The new Searchlight Writing for Children Awards are intended to act as a stepping stone for new and aspiring children's writers.
In addition to cash prizes, winners' work is sent to literary agents and publishers, and published in an anthology.
The first contest is for Best Children's Bedtime Story. Entries are invited of bedtime stories for young children, suitable to be read aloud, up to 500 words. The winner will receive £300. The judge is Finbar Hawkins, who is an author and creative director and producer at Aardman Animations.

The entry fee is £9.
The closing date is 16 August.
