Writing for children competition: Faber Andlyn BAME (FAB) Prize

New BAME children's writers and illustrators can win cash and writer development prizes

The prize from Faber & Faber and Andlyn Literary agency is intended to help discover new children's writers and illustrators from BAME backgrounds.

The first prize for writers is £500, a place on an online Faber Academy writing course, a place on a five part Insight into the Publishing Process programme and the opportunity to shadow established authors on school visits. The second prize is a place on the Insight into the Publishing Process programme and a selection of Faber books.

To enter, writers must be unpublished and from BAME backgrounds. Submit up to 5,000 words of text, which can be a sample from a longer manuscript. Submissions may be aimed at age groups from one to 18. If the submission is a picture book, send the complete manuscript.

Entry is free.

The closing date is 4 April 2020.
