Six shortlisted writers will visit Hachette’s riverside office in London for a celebratory party, and the winner will receive incisive feedback from the team which published The Loney, the winner of the 2015 Costa First Novel Award, and from an expert Just Write author.
When you ask a writer how to become a writer, they will often give you the same piece of advice: Just Write.
We know that’s easier said than done, but writing in the short story form can be one of the greatest ways of putting words onto the page and creating a compelling piece of writing.
In this exciting new competition, Writing Magazine is teaming up with the Just Write and John Murray Press teams at Hachette, one of the largest and most successful publishing companies in the world, to choose a shortlist of standout short stories to be judged by a panel of experts and publishing insiders.
The story can be about anything you like, in any genre that takes your fancy, as long as it’s between 4,000 and 8,000 words, and submitted to WM by 30 May 2016.
Our enthusiastic panel will then dive into the stories and begin the process of choosing the ones they love the most.
