The competition is for short stories up to 1,200 words, on the theme. All stories must be original and unpublished.
There is a first prize of £50, and second and third prizes of £35 and £25. Members of the writing group Writers at Lovedean have donated the prizes so that all proceeds can go to their chosen charity.
The entry fee for the Writers @ Lovedean Short Story Competition is £3. Writers may enter up to three stories. The closing date is 31 January.
Writers at Lovedean meet weekly, and aim to produce an annual anthology of stories and poems. The most recent, from 2015, is Diamond Encrusted Mince Pies (pictured).
