The HWA Dorothy Dunnett Short Story Award is for short stories set at last 35 years in the past.

The winner gets £500 and their story will be published in the Dorothy Dunnett Society's magazine Whispering Gallery. They will receive a mentoring session from an author and agent, and tickets to the HWA Crowns Ceremony in London in November. Two highly commended writers will receive mentoring and invitations to the awards ceremony. The winners and shortlisted authors will have their stories published in an anthology by the HWA and Dorothy Dunnett Society.

To enter, send original, unpublished short stories up to 3,500 words.

The entry fee is £5.

The closing date is 14 July.
