The first prize is £3,500 in Costa's free-to-enter short fiction contest
The 2016 Costa Short Story Award is for single, previously unpublished short fiction up to 4,000 words.
The three shortlisted stories will be anonymously posted on the Costa Book Awards website between mid-November and mid-January 2017, and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite.
The winner will recieve £3,500, and the second and third placed writers will receive £1,500 and £500. The winner and runners up will be announced at the Costa Book Awards presentation ceremony in January 2017.
The closing date to submit to the 2016 Costa Short Story Award is 5 August.
