The Lancaster Playwriting Prize aims to discover new playwriting voices from a diverse range of backgrounds. Each year the entry criteria changes to better represent underserved playwrights. This year the call is for entries from playwrights over 55.

To enter, send full-length, unproduced, scripts for a theatre production at least 40 minutes long.

To be eligible, playwrights must be over 55 and based in the North West of England (Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside). They must not have had prior full-length professional theatrical work produced.

The prize, which has come from a a cultural partnership between Lancaster University and The Dukes Theatre, Lancaster, is hoping to discover new work that illuminates how we live now, expands horizons, explores current issues or uncovers a hidden story. The winner will receive £1,500.

The script window opens on 19 August and closes on 27 September.
