Salman Rushdie - or possibly someone pretending to be Salman Rushdie - is posting a short story on Twitter with the username @SalmanRushdie1

Confusion about the tweeter's identity has occured because @salmanrushdie has already been taken. 'who are you?' posted @SalmanRushdie1. 'why are you pretending to be me? Release this name. you are a phoney. all followers please note.' @salmanrushdie has not replied, but @salmanrushdie has 26 followers, is following nobody, and has never tweeted anyone.

@SalmanRushdie1 posted on 18 September that he would be tweeting a story titled A Globe of Heaven, 140 characters each day. He has since posted 10 lines of the story, plus two links to a longer extract on Tumblr. The latest is here: http://salmanrushdie1.tumblr.com/post/10392582038/a-globe-of-heaven-monday-sept-19-episodes1-3. It reads beautifuly, and it does look as if it's by the real thing.
