The Poetry Society's annual competition has a first prize of £5,000

The National Poetry Competition is one of the world's most prestigious prizes for a single poem. In addition to the £5,000 first prize, there is a second prize of £2,000, a third prize of £1,000 and seven commendations will each win £200. This year's judges are Mona Arshi, Helen Mort and Maurice Riordan.

Enter original, unpublished poems in any style or form, up to 40 lines.

The first entry costs £7, and for any subsequent poems in the same submission the entry fee is £4.

The closing date is 31 October.
