Did you see Fope Jegede reading her prize-winning poem The Champion's Story during the BBC's broadcast of the Olympics closing ceremony last night?

15 year-old Fope, a London schoolgirl, won the London 2012 Poetry Competition for young poets run by the GLA. Her poem includes the lines:

The race of their lives, they’d run
The gold medal desired to be won
You Olympians with your glory and might
Did you know you inspired a girl tonight?

Inspired and inspiring, we thought, and perfectly in tune with the last momentous two weeks. Well done Fope. Here at WM, we shall look forward to more big wins for your poetry.
