The biennial contest from the University of Leeds Poetry Centre has a first prize of £1,000

The Brotherton Poetry Prize is an international competition for unpublished poets. The winner will receive £1,000 and the chance to develop their writing within the University of Leeds Poetry Centre. Four runners up will each receive £200 and the work of all five winners will be published in an anthology by Carcanet Press. Judges include current Poet Laureate Simon Armitage.

Entries should consist of portfolios of up to five poems (in total no more than 200 lines, excluding titles).

The entry fee per portfolio is £10.

The closing date is 30 September.
