The theme for this year's nationwide celebration of poetry is 'water, water everywhere.'
National Poetry Day Live will take place at the Southbank Centre. It will be compered by John Hegley and Joelle Taylor, and will include readings by Simon Armitage, Patience Agbabi, Hannah Lowe, David Morley and John Wedgwood Clarke; new Poetry Society commissions; a new film-poem by Alice Oswald and Chana Dubinski that explores water's most transient states; poets Liz Berry and Ian Macmillan, who travelled the UK's canal network with filmmaker Alastair Cook, and the Museum of Water, a collection of water and stories from all over the world.
The day will end with a reading of sea poems by Simon Armitage and friends.

• There are National Poetry Day events taking place all around the country.
These include:
• Poets writing in the London Underground
• Jordan from hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks hosting Spoken Word All Stars from Poets in the City and Apples and Snakes at Brent Civic Centre
• The London Welsh Literature Festival at the London Welsh Centre (3-5 October)
• The launch of the 2014 Christopher Tower Poetry Competition
• Water, Water Everywhere: Dove Cottage Poetry Marathon in the Lake District
• Pop Up Poetry at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh
• Evidently... John Cooper Clarke LIVE from Newcastle's Tyneside Cinema, screened at venues throughout the UK
• Carol Ann Duffy and Imtiaz Dharker at the Library of Birmingham.
