The 7.9" display aims Apple's new iPad Mini firmly at the e-reader market

Launched yesterday, the new device will run on iOS 6 and commentators are already saying it has the potential to be the best e-reader currently available. The lowest-priced model is £269.

Emphasising Apple's interest in the books and education sectors, new versions of iBooks and iBooks Author were also announced at the iPad Mini launch.

Amazon's Kindle Fire and Google's Nexus 7, are both full-colour tablets available in the UK, are the iPad Mini's nearest rivals.
