The new scheme to honour publishing legend Carole Blake encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to enter the publishing industry

Carole Blake, co-founder of the Blake Friedmann literary agency, died on 25 October.

The scheme, which will run twice a year, will offer at least six days of work shadowing over a two-week period, including funding for travel and up to eight night's accommodation in London. The programme will include mentorship with Blake Friendmann agents, opportunities to attend meetings with editors and clients and involvement in the day-to-day running of a literary agency.

Applications are invited from candidates from backgrounds not well represented in the publishing industry, including people who have not been to college or university (like Carole), do not come from high-income families, are from BAME backgrounds or live outside the London metropolitan area.

To apply, send a 300-500-word letter outlining how you meet the candidate specification and diversity guidelines, 250-500 words on why you want to work in the publishing industry and a 750-word reader's report on a book you have read recently.

The closing date to apply for the Carole Blake Open Doors Project is 31 December.
