Published on 6 October, My Dear Hugh is a collection of correspondence between Cobb, an eminent historian and Oxford professor, and friends including the noted writer Hugh Trevor-Roper. Editor Tim Heald, author of a biography of Prince Philip, was taught by Cobb at university, and continued a correspondence with him.

In a review of the book which appeared in The Oldie, Jeremy Lewis wrote: 'Heald's commentary is wretchedly inadequate, and the editorial apparatus is riddled with howlers...Cobb himself was a scrupulous scholar and would have taken a dim view of his former pupil's editorial shortcomings.'

Between 800 and 1,000 copies have been pulped, and a corrected version will be printed. It is currently noted as 'out of stock' on the Frances Lincoln website.
