The new prize from The Spectator is for the best original essay from any country in Europe
The winning entry will be published in The Spectator and on its website.
The Spectator is not looking for political reporting, but for work by a writer based anywhere in Europe that shows a county and its culture, conveying a mood and a sense of history. Essays may be between 500 and 1,000 words and must be original and unpublished.
The prize is named after the historian, commentator and author Timothy Garton Ash, who was a PhD student in Berlin when he began writing desptches for The Spectator that covered the fall of communism. The closing date to enter the Timothy Garton Ash prize for European writing is 31 March.
