Literature Wales and the Rhys Davies Trust invite entries from Welsh writers to win a total of £5,000-worth of prizes in two categories
The first prize winner in the adult category will get £2,000. The second prize is £800, the third, £400, and six runners-up will each be awarded £100.
The under-21s category, which is new this year, awards £1,000 to the winner and £200 to the runner-up.
Entries for the Rhys Davies Short Story Competition should be original, unpublished short stories in any style and on any subject, up to 2,500 words. All entrants should live, or have been born, in Wales.
The entry fee in the adult category is £7 per story, and in the under-21s, £4.
The closing date is 16 May.
