The forthcoming literary festival offers prizes for short stories, single poems, poetry collections and humorous essays
The creative writing competitions connected to Listowel Writers' Week include:
• The Bryan MacMahon Short Story Competition
Win €2,000 for an original, unpublished short story in Irish or English, up to 3,000 words.
• The Single Poem Competition
Win €700 for an original unpublished poem up to 70 lines.
• The Poetry Collection Competition
Win €1,500 for a collection of 6-12 individual poems.
• Listowel Writers' Week Originals Competition
There is a prize pot of €750 for entries in three categories: short story (up to 1,500 words), short poem (up to 70 lines) and humorous essay (up to 750 words).
• The Irish Post New Writing Competition
Win €500, publication and a trip to Listowel Writers' Week including flights, car hire and two nights B&B
for a short story with an Irish theme of not more than 1,000 words. Only open to UK residents.
The closing date for these competitions is 3 March.
Listowel Writers' Week takes place between 1 and 5 June in Listowel, Co Kerry.
