Win a first prize of £300 for a 500-word story

The competition is for original, unpublished short fiction up to 500 words.

There is a first prize of £300, a second prize of £200 and a third prize of £100. Each winner can also choose a Writers Bureau course worth at least £374.

Judge Diana Nadin, Director of Studies at The Writers Bureau, said: 'Flash fiction may seem easy but it's not. Writers have to distil everything about their plot and characters into only a handful of words - so tight writing is essential. There's no room for waffle or digression. That's the challenge.  Last time we ran this competition we received some cracking entries so I'm looking forward to reading the next set of stories.'

The entry fee is £5 per story.

The closing date is 30 November.
