Creative writing competition: The Cheshire Prize 2023/24

The 2023/4 prize is for writing on any theme by writers with a connection to Cheshire

There are four categories in the annual contest run by the University of Chester: short stories up to 1,500 words; poetry up to 100 lines; children's literature for a story up to 1,500 words or a poem up to 100 lines, aimed at children aged 7 to 14; scriptwriting, for playscripts suitable for radio, theatre or TV, no longer than 15 minutes.

To enter, writers must have been born, live or have lived, study or have studied and work or have worked in the historical or modern county of Cheshire (including the Wirral and Warrington and Halton). There are three age categories: primary (age 4-11), secondary (age 11-17) and 18+. In each category there are cash and book token prizes.

All entries must be original and unpublished.

Entry is free.

The closing date is 31 January 2024.
