The winners in each category will receive £1,000 and publication

Now in its 15th iteration, the international Queen Mary Wasafiri Writing Prize is in three categories: fiction, life-writing and poetry.

Three winners will each receive £1,000 and their work will be published in Wasafiri's print magazine. Shortlisted writers will be published online. This year's prize is chaired by Margaret Busby and the judges are Isabel Waidner (fiction), Meena Kandasmy (poetry) and Cristina Rivera Garza (life writing).

Writers entering the competition must not have published a full-length book of fiction, life-writing or poetry. All shortlisted writers will be offered either the Chapter and Verse or Free Reads mentoring scheme in association with The Literary Consultany and a conversation with The Good Literary Agency, plus a one-year print subscription to Wasafiri.

To enter, send original, unpublished work no longer than 3,000 words. Entries must be self-contained, ie, not an extract from a longer novel or memoir. A single poetry entry may consist of up to three poems (total word count up to 3,000 words).

The entry fee is £12 for a single entry and £16 for a double entry.
