The annual contest has a £1,000 for the winner

The Bristol Short Story Prize is for original, unpublished short stories up to 4,000 words, in any genre or style. It is open to all writers, published and unpublished.

The first prize is £1,000, and there are second and third prizes of £500 and £250. Seventeen further shortlisted writers will each win £100. All 20 shortlisted entries will be published in Bristol Short Story prize Anthology Volume 16 by Tangent Books. The £100 Samson Award will be presented to the highest-placed story by a Bristol writer. This year's judging panel is literary agent Abi Fellows, writer, editor and creative producer Heather Marks and writer and independent bookshop manager Daniel Ross.

The entry fee is £9 per story. 250 free online entries are available for writers for whom the entry fee is a barrier to submitting.

The closing date is 26 April.
