The free-to-enter competition has a first prize of £3,500
There is a second prize of £1,500 and a third prize of £500.
The competition is for original, unpublished short stories on any theme, with a maximum wordcount of 4,000.
Six shortlisted stories will be posted anonymously on the Costa Book Awards website during November, and readers will be asked to vote for their favourite.
Entries may be submitted by writers, agents and publishers.
The closing date for the Costa Short Story Award is 5 August.
