The first prize is £3,500 in the free-entry competition for short stories up to 4,000 words
Three shortlisted stories will be posted on the Costa Book Awards website between November and January and readers invited to vote for their favourite. The first-placed winner will receive £3,500 and there are second and third prizes of £1,000 and £500.
There is no set theme for the competition. Writers are invited to send bold, different stories that are original and previously unpublished. The maximum length is 4,000 words.
To be eligible to enter, writers must be resident in the UK or Ireland. Entries may be submitted by authors, agents and publishers. Only one story per author may be entered.
Entry is free.
The closing date is 2 August 2021.
