Children's writing competition: The Searchlight Writing for Children Awards

Entries are invited in the Best Novel Opening for Children and Young Adults contest

The first prize winner will recieve £500 and and one-to-one call with literary agent Gill McLay of Bath Literary Agency. The top ten shortlisted entries, including the winner, will be included in the Winners' Collection, which is sent to agents and publishers, and also included in the Searchlight Awards Anthology.

To enter, send the opening 1,200 words of a novel for children or young adults (aged eight to eighteen). The novel manuscript doesn't need to have been completed.

The entry fee is £11.

The closing date is 22 November.
