Books by bestselling children's writer Robert Muchamore have been banned from the library at Highgate School, and his visit cancelled

Robert Muchamore, whose Cherub series has sold more than 3m copies, was due to give a reading at the independent school in North London. But following parental complaints about the books contining unsuitable material, his books were removed from the junior library and his reading cancelled.

Muchamore's books, which are about a secret British organisation which uses children as spies, are still stocked in Highgate School's senior library.

After receiving the email cancelling the event, Muchamore tweeted: 'Highgate School invited me to do an event, then decided read my books first and promptly banned them. Tossers.'
