The online mega-store will focus on English-language titles aimed at the European market from its Luxembourg offices.
Amazon announced that it would be publishing original books in Europe in a letter to literary agents that was sent on Wednesday.
Amazon's vice-president Jeff Belle's letter said that as part of the company's European expansion, it would be adding a staff of editors and marketers, and looking to build up an English-language audience through its bookstores in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
'We have much work to do, and many challenges ahead of us, and we remain relentlessly focused on providing the best possible publishing experience for your authors,' said his letter.
