Marie O'Regan

Marie O’Regan is an award-nominated author and editor of dark fiction, and has had short stories published in the US, UK, Italy and Germany, as well as articles, reviews and interviews in both genre and non-genre magazines, both in the UK and US. Her stories ‘Can You See Me?’ and ‘Listen’ were short-listed for the British Fantasy Society’s Best Short Story Award. ‘Listen’ was also reprinted in ‘Unconventional Fantasy, A Celebration of 40 Years of the World Fantasy Convention’. Her first collection of short fiction, Mirror Mere, was published by Rainfall Books in 2006, as was a non-fiction essay on horror film ‘The Changeling’ in Cinema Macabre by PS Publishing. Her novella Mirror Mere was published as an E-book in 2007. A book of interviews conducted with her husband, Paul Kane, was released in Spring 2011 by McFarland Publishing in the U.S., entitled Voices in the Dark. She has also co-edited Hellbound Hearts (Simon and Schuster), Mammoth Book of Body Horror (Constable and Robinson) and Carnivàle: Dark Tales of the Fairground (PS Publishing) in 2012, as well as her own first solo editing project, The Mammoth Book of Ghost Stories by Women (Constable and Robinson). Hellbound Hearts and The Mammoth Book of Ghost Stories by Women went on to be short-listed for the British Fantasy Award for Best Anthology. Her second collection, In Times of Want, is due out in September and will be launched at 2016’s FantasyCon. Marie is currently working on a number of commissioned stories and novellas, due out later this year and next, as well as a novel and various other writing projects.

As well as writing, Marie edited the magazine Dark Horizons for two years and the British Fantasy Society newsletter Prism for a year before that. She also served as Chairperson of the British Fantasy Society from 2004 to 2008, working on projects alongside such authors as Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, Peter Straub, John Connolly, Christopher Fowler and many more. She and Paul also run Workshops on all aspects of Creative Writing at events such as Derby’s Edge-Lit festival, plus she proofreads for independent publisher PS Publishing. In 2008 and 2011 Marie and Paul co-chaired the British Fantasy Society’s FantasyCon, and were also on the World Horror Convention 2010, FantasyCon 2012 and World Fantasy Convention 2013 committees. Marie is currently co-chair of the UK Chapter of the Horror Writers’ Association, and is represented by Ampersand Agency Ltd.
