Lynne has been writing and selling words for over 30 years now. Her main expertise is in short stories, especially for the womag market, but she has dabbled in all sorts of writing. Lynne has sold well over 400 short stories and her work has been in many anthologies.
One of her children's stories, Dog’s Dinner, was included in a collection called Don’t Make Me Laugh, published by Heinemann. Other contributors included Penelope Lively, Anne Fine, Michael Rosen and Roger McGough. Lynne has also had a children's book published - Racing Start, a sports novel for young teens published by Blackie & Son. Racing cycling has always been an interest. Lynne used to compete in time-trials but now prefers to watch racing from the sidelines.
Other books include Writing From Life - how to turn personal experience into profitable prose, published by How To Books and now in second edition and Handy Hints for Writers (Compass Points). Handy Hints is a vastly enlarged version of her Handy Little Book For Writers, which was published by National Association of Writers’ Groups and is now out of print. Ghostwriting - how to write for others, published by Aber Books, tells of Lynne’s experiences of ghostwriting and what writers new to this should avoid.
Lynne is a tutor and speaker and has led workshops and given talks to writing groups all over the UK. She is a member of The Society of Authors and NAWG, The National Association of Writers’ Groups.
The criticism I receive is honest. My tutor doesn't simply tell me what I would like to hear, she tells me the truth.B Joy - 10/02/2016
I had a very enjoyable and informative creative writing course through Writing Magazine led by Lynne Hackles. Having kept my fingers to the keyboard and followed her advice, I am now pleased to say that I have had a short story accepted by a magazine. Needless to say I am delighted and feel more than a little spurred on.Mary Keyser - 10/02/2016
I’m very excited to have Lynne Hackles as my tutor. I have read her pieces many times in Writing Magazine and I also have her book Writing from Life. I’ve made a start on my first assignment – but it needs some polishing. I’m sure knowing Lynne will be reading it will make me up my game!Dorinda Cass, Scarborough - 18/02/2016

And thank you also for coming back so quickly, especially while you were away. I do appreciate it.Mary-Jane Houlton, Wales - 01/03/2017
