Sunday 17th 4pm - 7pm and Sunday 24th of October 2021 4pm - 7pm

Join author and Writing Magazine writer James McCreet for a two-part, four-hour webinar programme that teaches the essential skills of conceiving and writing a novel.

Where do you start? How do you turn an idea into a structure you can work with? How do you know if what you’re writing is readable or publishable? What do you need to know before you begin writing? The two webinar sessions will deal with all of this in detail.

October 17th: Webinar 1 – Building your Idea (2-3 hours)

How to turn your seed into materials you can use. James teaches a technique for roughly structuring any kind of novel so that it will work for a reader and be easier to write. Using a mix of on-screen presentation and interactive exercises, he will leave you with a plan you can start to use for your novel.

Optional extra: Polish and expand your novel plan and send it to James after the webinar for personalised feedback.
Please email: [email protected] if you are interested in this option.

October 24th: Webinar 2 – Writing that works (2-3 hours)

Once you have a workable structure, you need to hone your storytelling skills. That means mastering narrative (how a story flows and connects) and writing scenes that keep the readers’ attention from page to page. James will explain through presentation, examples and interactive exercises how to hone these skills.

Optional extra: Write a portion of your novel based on the lessons of this session and send it to James after the webinar for personalised feedback.
Please [email protected] if you are interested in this option.

ALTERNATIVE: If you're interested in writing crime, you can swap the second session of this workshop for the How to Start Your Crime Novel session on January 30th. Please [email protected] if you are interested in this option.
