The Neurodivergent Writer's Tool Kit, The Next Chapter
The Neurodivergent Writer’s Toolkit: The Next Chapter
Back by popular demand! Following the success of the first series of webinars, Amanda Marples is happy to announce a series of follow-up sessions, focusing on even more areas that most writers struggle with from time to time… more so if you’re neurodivergent (or think you might be). Find out why that is, and what can be done about it, so that you can stop blaming yourself and get some writing done.
You do not need a diagnosis to attend these sessions. Sessions are designed to stand alone, so you can just attend the ones you think might be most helpful. You can also block purchase all 4 workshops at a reduced price. Sessions are online.
Webinar 1: Reading Skills - Thursday 7th November - You know how this goes. You’ve read the same line fifteen times and it still hasn’t sunk in. Annoying, since a) you enjoy reading and want to do more of it or b) you have to read for work or study and it’s taking a dog’s age. In this first of four webinars, you will discover how and why your brain is holding you back and ways to get around it, but more importantly you will learn that reading is a specific skill that few of us are ever taught but which you can absolutely learn.
Webinar 2: Trauma, Neurodivergence & Writing - Thursday 21st November - It’s hard to meet your writing goals when you are battling your own mental health. Trauma in particular is incredibly common in the neurodivergent population, and it can derail your writing. But with care, attention and compassion, it doesn’t have to. Things can get better, they really can. This webinar is threefold in purpose. You will learn about the relationship between trauma and neurodiversity; how to write for healing and how personal history and life experiences can be harnessed to enrich your writing.
Webinar 3: Research Skills - Thursday 28th November - It’s overwhelming, right? Where on earth do you start, when either your subject is huge, or you have a hundred exciting ideas all pinging around your brain, or both? This webinar will take a deep dive into the different kinds of research and what options you have to suit your uniquely wired brain. You will also learn how to make a research plan, how to focus and direct your ideas and how to know when you’ve done enough.
Webinar 4: Writing to the End - Wednesday 4th December - Be honest. How many unfinished novels, articles or short stories do you have lurking on your desktop (folders within folders within folders, am I right?) or in notebooks scattered all over the house? Having a pile of unfinished work can be soul-destroying and make you think you don't have what it takes, but it isn’t true. It’s also not your fault. What to do? How do we push through the sticky, boring bit in the middle of any piece of work without abandoning ship and looking for the next shiny thing? Learn about your amazingly complex brain, why sometimes it's perfectly okay to have more than one thing bubbling away at once, but how to get through to the finish line if you really want to.
