The IRA and the German Secret Service, the Abwehr, combine to cause chaos with a bombing campaign on the UK mainland as the country drifts towards war. Investigative journalist Roger Martin uncovers the Irish-Nazi link which goes far deeper than a number of, at first, relatively harmless bombs exploding in cinemas, hotels, news kiosks and banks.

Events take a sinister turn when the Gestapo become involved and seek to blackmail Jewish refugees from Austria and Germany to spy for them.

Roger gets together with the legendary Marxist journalist Claud Cockburn, and two teenage boys ,George and Joe, are recruited to spy on both the IRA and the Gestapo. Collectively, they uncover a conspiracy which threatens Britain’s preparations for war. The action switches between London, Brussels, Berlin and Harwich and builds to thrilling climaxes on both sides of the North Sea. With romance in the air and a daring escape planned involving Alexander Korda’s film company, The Summer of ’39, will keep you on the edge of your seats and, ultimately, purring with satisfaction.
